The World of Wearable Art

SHARE

The Brancott Estate World of WearableArtTM Awards Show (WOW) is an annual fashion extravaganza for expressive designers from around the world to flaunt work that takes art off the wall and places it onto the body.

“A show like WOW is difficult to explain in words, many have tried.” says Malia Johnston, art director and choreographer for WOW. She is still amazed by all the designs that show up each year. “The designs are for the human body, but can tell stories and express ideas through shape, colour and material without the need for commercial gain.”

Canadian artist Marjolein Dallinga, costume designer for Cirque du Soleil, was a WOW finalist in 2011 and 2012 for her costumes Skin and Cocoon. She designed her whimsical costumes using the ancient art of felting. Her inspirations include her love of movement, colour, and nature. The garments now have a permanent home in the World of WearableArtTM and Classic Cars Museum in Nelson, New Zealand.
