Facilities update for September

We would like to wish a warm welcome to all of our new and existing employees as we kick off a new fall semester. During the summer, we completed a large number of office moves and renovations. This fall will see the Facilities Department continuing on renovations and upgrades to improve our campus. Please continue to contact us if there are any facilities-related issues at facilities@langara.ca.

Completed office relocations

  • Educational Technology is now moved into M3 (portable closest to the Library)
  • Foundation is now moved into the main floor of B Building (room B112)
  • The Math Centre for students has moved from Room C209 to Room B154

Upcoming office relocations

  • Communications & Marketing will move into the main floor of B Building in mid-September
  • A portion of IT will move into M2 (centre portable) once Communications & Marketing is relocated to B Building. IT Services is anticipated to complete their move by end of October.

Please remember to check the Telephone Directory to ensure you have the correct office location.

Upcoming renovations and upgrades

The following renovations and upgrades can be expected this fall.

  • The drain tile repair work that began in the summer on the north-east side of A Building continues. Please continue to use alternate entrances to access A Building.
  • The Strategic Investment Fund project fan system continues in A Building, and is projected to be complete by Spring 2018.
  • Renovations for Studio 58’s much needed new shower facility will continue through September.
  • Extensive renovations for the vacated chemistry, physics, and biology labs on the second and third floors of A Building are expected to begin this month. The renovation of the chemistry labs into four new 40-seat classrooms as well as studio space for Theatre Arts and Fine Arts, will be the first of three major renovations in the upcoming 18 months. To minimize disruption the contractor will be instructed to perform the noisiest work early in the morning and noise will be prohibited during the exam schedule. We ask for your patience as we carry out these much-needed renovations in order to create more classroom and support space.
  • Construction for the new Gathering Space location as well as renovations to adjacent Co-op and Career Development will begin on the first floor of C Building in September. This renovation will combine rooms C121g, C122, and C123 into a new dedicated area for Aboriginal students and an expanded Co-op and Career Development Centre. The ThinkTank will move to A353 when renovations begin.
  • The acoustic ceiling in T450 will be upgraded beginning in December.

Completed renovations and upgrades

  • The new Registered Massage Therapy classrooms in A369/A370 and LEAP instructor spaces in C014 in are now complete.
  • The acoustic ceiling in T530 has been upgraded to reduce noise disruptions. This included a new classroom and AV layout.
