What does an earthquake feel like? Are you prepared?
Join hundreds on Oct 12 for Langara College’s Shake-Out BC event to find out.
Students, employees, and the general public are invited to experience ShakeZone™. ShakeZone™ is a portable earthquake simulator which allows consumers to experience up to a 8.0 magnitude earthquake in a safe controlled environment. Participants will also have an opportunity to learn about earthquake preparedness and safety.
The event is part of the Insurance Bureau of Canada’s Time to Talk: Earthquake tour as well as the annual Shake-Out BC event running across the entire province on October 19.

Location: Langara College front lawn by the security office (100 W 49th Ave).
Time: 10:00am-4:00pm
Notes for participants
- Earthquake simulation lasts approximately 30 seconds. Simulator accommodates up to 3 individuals at a time. First come, first served.
- The simulator can go up to a 7.9 magnitude earthquake.
- Standing is not permitted while the simulation is underway.
- Children under 2 years of age are not permitted in the simulator. Children under 6 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Parents or guardians must take responsibility for minors. Please also be advised that the ride contains loud sounds and graphic images.
