Bike to Work Week recap

This year’s Fall Bike to Work Week (Monday, October 23 to Sunday, October 29) was mostly sunny and mild. 27 people on Langara College’s Bike to Work Week team logged bicycle commutes during the week. Collectively, they made 192 trips and cycled 1,707 kilometres that resulted in over 51,000 calories burnt and 370 kilograms of greenhouse gas emissions avoided. The number of kilometres cycled was up an astounding 66% from 2016.

Stephen Connor and Steven Brouse are the winners of $50 MEC gift cards from Langara College for making a bicycle commute during the week.

Region-wide, the event saw cyclists logging 289,684 kilometres biked.

Langara College also hosted a Bike to Work Week Celebration that saw 185 cyclists passed by over a two-hour period on the afternoon of Tuesday October 24. Cyclists that stopped by got prizes, free refreshments including Starbucks Coffee from Chartwells, and free bike mechanic services from Erik of VanCycle Mobile Bicycle Shop. The station was one of forty-five in Metro Vancouver during the week.
