Gis Day

Langara College celebrates GIS Day

Langara was pleased to host its first Geographic Information System (GIS) Day – Geospatial Matters – in the Gallery on November 15, 2017.  The keynote presentation by Betty Ling of the Vancouver Police Department on the power of the GeoDASH app and its role in crime reduction (geodash.vpd.ca) was very well received. Presentations by the Department of Geography & Geology and Continuing Studies highlighted the application of geographical information systems (GIS) in teaching and academic research, and focused on the innovative application of technology, data collection, geospatial information visualization, and thought leadership.

Langara College is working with the Department of Geography and Geology, and Continuing Studies to expand the use of GIS technology and techniques on campus, perhaps expanding into areas such as business, marketing, health-sciences, and criminology, amongst others.

For more information on GIS technology, or to talk about ways to incorporate it into the classroom, please contact Andrew Egan at aegan@langara.ca or 604.323.5714, or Raymond Chow at rchow@langara.ca or 604.323.5927.
