Solar Panel T Building

Harnessing the power of our community and the sun

Dear colleagues,

Some of you may not be aware but over the last year and a half, the Langara Business Association (LBA) and the Langara Sustainability Club were involved in a project to install solar panels on the Science and Technology Building. Led by Cameron Bower and Sterling Keful, these student clubs ran events to raise funds, build awareness and worked closely with the facilities department to install over $25,000 worth of solar panels on the T Building.

It is inspiring to see a project progress from idea through to implementation. This was a team effort requiring collaboration from various departments including the Langara Foundation, donations from faculty members in the School of Management, outside sponsorship from VanCity Credit Union and the hard work of the facilities department. Our students are extremely capable and motivated. It is inspiring to see them take on big challenges like this and achieve the level of success they did.

The solar panels were installed this past September. So far, the panels have produced over 1,000kwh of power. If you’re interested, you can view the solar energy dashboard.

Kudos to everyone involved in making this project a powerful success.
