Walking Challenge

Get your watches, phones or pedometers ready because it’s time to walk! The challenge will be starting on Thursday, February 1st and a total of 155 employees are participating! Please note, the first submission for individual weekly steps is due on Friday, February 9th using the online reporting form.

Make sure you stay up to date with the Langara Post to find out about the winners and prizes throughout the challenge. Even if you haven’t formally signed up for the challenge, you can continue being healthy in different ways (soccer, dance, weight training, etc.) and if you are already active, continue to stay active! The Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) mentions that adults aged 18-64, that are active for at least 150 minutes per week can reap benefits such as improved fitness, strength, and mental health (morale and self-esteem); in addition to reducing the risk of:

  • Premature death
  • Heart disease
  • Stroke
  • High blood pressure
  • Certain types of cancer
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Osteoporosis
  • Overweight and obesity

Every step taken, is a step towards better health!
