APAG 2018

2018 Langara Academic Plan Mini-Conference

Transforming perspectives: a student focus.

2018 APAG Mini-Conference Program of Events

One more day until the Mini-Conference! Please remember to bring a can for the CANSTRUCTION, and your reusable mug or water bottle, and we’ll see you on transit!

Day 1: Keynote speaker Lawrence Hill

Lawrence Hill will describe his journey into the writing life and his development as a writer. He will discuss his most recent novels (The Illegal and The Book of Negroes), situate them in the context of Black history and social upheaval in Canada, and meditate on migration, dislocation, belonging, and the search for identity and home.

Can’t come to other sessions? You can still come to see Lawrence Hill – register now while there’s still time. Pick up your copy of Lawrence Hill’s The Book of Negroes at Langara’s bookstore now.

Day 2: Keynote Event – Theatre for Living

Through simple theatre activities, conference participants will voluntarily explore the interface between employees and students and create ‘Images’. Collectively, participants engage with the issues in a creative, embodied discussion of empathy and sense of belonging between employees and students. Participants will take away insights at individual and group levels.

Community Events – new this year:

  • Canstruction: Support the Community Cupboard – a way for us all to help our students via Langara’s new Community Cupboard. Bring a non-perishable food item to participate.
  • Program Review High Tea Celebration
  • Explore Our World: International Education Meetup – Stop by for lunch and talk with members of the international education team. Representatives from recruitment, admissions, student services, homestay, short term contract groups, and exchange will be onsite to answer your questions and provide guidance for support. Please register, or drop by and have lunch with us! IE always provides lots of food!
  • Closing Plenary with Ian Humphreys followed by No Host Bar – Refreshments will be served. Sponsored by Langara Alumni.

Registration is now closed for this sold out event. We look forward to seeing you at the conference!
