Highlights from Convocation 2018

This year’s convocation ceremonies were held at the Orpheum Theatre, on June 4 and 5, 2018. Over the course of three ceremonies, over 1,000 graduands crossed the Orpheum’s classic stage.

The graduand processions were led by piper Mike MacDonald, followed by the faculty and platform party led by Musqueam singer and drummer Christie Lee Charles. Singer Synthia Yusuf opened each event with her rendition of the national anthem, Oh Canada.

Langara proudly announced the conferral of the 2018 Emeritus Awards. Emeritus is an honourary title given to retired faculty or professional staff to recognize their outstanding contribution to teaching, service, or leadership in an organization. This year’s recipients were:

Frances Grunberg – Faculty Emerita, Social Service Worker
Scott Plear – Faculty Emeritus, Fine Arts
Barbara Wuhrer – Faculty Emerita, Langara School of Management

Keynote speaker: Wendy Long, graduate of Langara’s Journalism program – award-winning journalist, recently inducted into the media category of the BC Sports Hall of Fame.
