Appointment of Interim Provost & VP Academic

Colleagues,

I am pleased to share with you that Dr. Martin Gerson will be returning to Langara on an interim basis in the role of Provost and Vice-President Academic. Beginning in early July, he will be responsible for leading the five academic faculties and Academic Innovation.  Dr. Gerson worked at Langara for 38 years, first as an instructor in Mathematics and Statistics, where he also served as Assistant Department Chair and Department Chair. Along with those responsibilities he served as President of the Langara Faculty Association from 1983–1985. In 1993 he took on the position of Dean of Instruction, and later became Langara’s first Vice-President, Academic and Provost, the role from which he retired in 2012. In 2017 he received Emeritus designation from Langara for his many contributions. Since retirement he has stayed connected with Langara, serving as Chair of the Retiree Committee. Please join me in welcoming Martin back to Langara.

Also on an interim basis Ajay Patel, Vice-President, External Development, will be responsible for Indigenization, Internationalization, and Student Services. I want to thank Ajay for taking on these additional responsibilities during this transition.

We will be initiating a search for a new permanent Provost and Vice-President Academic and Students  shortly, with a goal of having that individual in place early in 2019.
