Academic Announcement – AVP, Academic

Colleagues,

I am pleased to share with you that Margaret Heldman is the successful candidate for the role of Associate Vice-President, Academic effective July 23, 2018.

Marg brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Associate Vice-President, Academic role.  Marg has been at Langara College for many years, beginning as a Chemistry Instructor in January 1981 and holding the role of Chemistry Department Chair between 1999 and 2003.  Marg went on to serve as Division Chair for Math and Sciences between 2003 and 2009, until she assumed the position of Acting Dean of Instruction in 2009, before commencing her role as Dean, Faculty of Science in July 2010.

The AVP, Academic is responsible for leading specific college-wide academic initiatives and provides support to initiatives aimed at achieving the strategic objectives of the institution.  This position works closely with me, the Academic Deans, the Dean of Student Services, the Director of Academic Innovation and the Director of Indigenous Education and Services and is a senior academic administrator at the College’s Leadership team level.

Please join me in congratulating Marg on her new role.

A huge thank you to the AVP, Academic Search Committee:

  • Ajay Patel, Chair and Vice-President, External Development
  • Dawn Palmer, Vice-President, People Services
  • Darrell Kean, LFA Representative
  • Janet Douglas, LFA Representative
  • Susan Watt, CUPE Representative
  • Jacqueline Bradshaw, Interim Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and Management

Ian McBain will continue in his role as Interim Dean, Faculty of Arts until Julie’s return.
