Langara expands partnership with RBC

As the College’s bank for over 20 years, Langara is excited to announce an extended partnership with RBC with two new exciting projects.

RBC grant supports new Indigenous Upgrading program
In addition to banking services and professional development workshops for staff offered, RBC recently provided a grant to the Langara College Foundation to support a new Indigenous Upgrading program.

Expected to launch in January 2019 the new program will help Indigenous students start their education at Langara. Students requiring high school matriculation will now be able to access a 26-week curriculum for entrance into first year studies at Langara. The program also received SSHRC research funding and support from a private donor.

New RBC On Campus opening at Langara
A new RBC On Campus hub at Langara will provide financial literacy education programs and advice to students. Langara will become the first B.C. College operating this new hub, joining several other post-secondary campuses across the country including UBC, University of Calgary, McMaster University, and Sheridan College.

Launching on August 25, RBC On Campus will be a place where students can access support and ideas on how to manage their personal finances and gain new financial literacy skills. The temporary hub will open in the T Building, across from Financial Aid, until its permanent home is ready in the A Building in November. The hub will be open regular College business hours, with some evening and weekend hours as the program evolves.

RBC On Campus will have three key areas of focus:

  • Financial literacy via drop-in advising and financial planning workshops.
  • Supporting student wellness, partnering with established campus events such as Welcome Week and Career Week.
  • Help students navigate the workforce by providing career advice as well as opportunities for networking, work experience, and mentorship within the industry.

RBC On Campus is not a traditional branch for banking. It will offer resources and financial education to students. Should students wish for more information on banking services they will be referred to local branches including Fraser and 49th, Oakridge, Cambie, and Marine locations.
