Nov 1 – Free screening: Art in the Twenty-First Century

Langara’s Fine Arts department will host a free screening of an episode from season nine of Art in the Twenty-First Century on Thursday, November 1 from 6:30 pm in A130.

The episode screening of Johannesburg, is open to the public and will include a post-show discussion.

Episode Synopsis:
Johannesburg featuring David Goldblatt, Nicholas Hlobo, Zanele Muholi, and Robin Rhode.
Since the dramatic fall of Apartheid in 1994, Johannesburg has emerged as the artistic capital of sub-Saharan Africa. This episode tells the story of four South African artists from a range of ethnic backgrounds, identities, and generations working across photography, painting, sculpture, and performance. Collectively, the artists in this hour use their work to empower marginalized communities, reexamine history, and pursue their visions for South Africa’s future.

This event is produced in partnership with Art 21, a nonprofit global leader in art education, producing preeminent films on today’s leading visual artists and education programs that inspire creativity worldwide.
