Nov 15 – Philosophers’ Jam
Do you enjoy thinking about what others say as much as they enjoy arguing their own views?
The Langara College Department of Philosophy invites you to attend the last Philosophers’ Jam of the Fall semester, a forum for the expression of provocative ideas. This dialogue series is intended for people who want to discuss ideas but whose busy lives prevent them from signing up for a credit course.
Philosophers’ Jams are free and open to all Langara faculty, staff, and students, as well as anyone in the Vancouver community. Bring a friend or colleague and see you at the next Jam session!
Attention Rights

Your attention is exploited. The technology in your smartphone is designed to take it away. Should tech companies and others be allowed to shape your attention according to their interests? No, I argue. Because attention is essential to our subjectivity, there are strict limits to how much others are permitted to interfere with it. What controls our attention controls who we are. We have a right to be in charge of our own minds.
