Join us for the 2018 Wellness Fair

Dear colleagues,

I invite you to join us for the annual Health & Wellness Fair this Wednesday, November 14, from 11 am-3 pm in the Main Foyer. This year will mark a few milestones for the College, and we hope you can be there to celebrate with us.

In a commitment to promoting wellness on campus, Langara College will be officially signing the Okanagan Charter, an international charter that calls upon schools to embed health into all aspects of campus culture. We are excited to have Matt Dolf, UBC Wellbeing Director, and Gail Sparrow, Elder-in-Residence, join us for the signing at 11:30 am. Cake will be served after the signing.

We are also launching Langara’s first Mental Health Framework. As you may know, over the past two years, the Mental Health Framework Committee has been working towards the development of a comprehensive mental health framework. The framework outlines Langara’s commitments and includes objectives to protect and promote the wellbeing of the Langara community. To implement the framework, Langara has hired its first Mental Health Initiatives Consultant, Tanya Miller, who will be present at the fair to answer questions.

Lastly, Langara College People Services and Health Services have hosted individual wellness fairs for our community over the years. Wellness is a priority for everyone, and this year marks the first time the Wellness Fair will be a joint endeavour between People Services and Health Services, making this fair open to employees and students alike in one venue.

I encourage you to find the time to visit the fair sometime between 11 am-3 pm. Wellness doesn’t always happen by itself. Wellness should be actively pursued, so please come out and Work Your Health.

Dawn Palmer,
Vice-President, People Services
