Giving Tuesday raises over $17,000 for students

Thank you to everyone who was part of our Giving Tuesday celebration on Tuesday, November 27. We were overwhelmed by the response on the day and are so grateful for your continued support of Langara and our students. Tuesday showed once again that Langara truly is a giving community.

For the 2018 Giving Tuesday, we wanted to recognize the contributions of our student volunteer program, VOLT. Since it was created in 2010, VOLT student volunteers have contributed over 57,000 hours of service on-campus and within the broader community. And this is certainly something to celebrate!

With your support, Langara’s Giving Tuesday campaign raised almost $10,000 (before matching) for the VOLT program and other student scholarships and bursaries. Here’s how we got there:

  • We asked our students and employees to give a thumbs-up to VOLT. We received over 100 thoughtful messages, raising almost $300.
  • Our email appeal raised over $7,000, exceeding our goal of $5,000
  • Thanks to our social media community, Langara Students’ Union will donate $2,500 to the VOLT program as a result of our social media campaign. Each and every like, share, and comment on Giving Tuesday made a difference and the combined impact of our social media followers will help VOLT do more in the community.

The College will match a portion of the funds raised for Giving Tuesday. After matching, our final total for Giving Tuesday was over Giving Tuesday raised over $17,000 for the VOLT program and other student scholarships and bursaries. Thank you again to everyone who supported this year’s campaign. There is still time to give, if you are interested visit the Beyond 49 website.

A big thank you to Langara Students’ Union for partnering with us again for Giving Tuesday. And finally, thank you to all our donors who gave to the campaign. We experienced some issues with our online giving form throughout our Giving Tuesday appeal and really appreciate your patience.
