Jan 31 – Philosophers’ Jam

Do you enjoy thinking about what others say as much as they enjoy arguing their own views?

The Langara College Department of Philosophy invites you to attend the last Philosophers’ Jam of the Fall semester, a forum for the expression of provocative ideas. This dialogue series is intended for people who want to discuss ideas but whose busy lives prevent them from signing up for a credit course.

Philosophers’ Jams are free and open to all Langara faculty, staff, and students, as well as anyone in the Vancouver community. Bring a friend or colleague and see you at the next Jam session!

Women & Men: Which Sex Has it Tougher?
Kurt Preinsperg

Thursday, January 31
7:00 pm–9:00 pm
A Building, Employee Lounge

In Canadian society today, do women or do men face more difficult obstacles in pursuit of a happy life? To grapple with this question, the presenter will offer a very tentative (and inevitably incomplete) list of men’s and women’s characteristic predicaments. The idea is to stimulate participants to come up with their own informed and balanced judgment.

Kurt Preinsperg is a Philosophy Instructor at Langara, specializing in Ethics and Existentialism. He loves Nietzsche and Martha Nussbaum, and is currently agonizing about the pros and cons of retirement.
