Langara Bell Let’s Talk Day event recap

On January 30, 2019, the Langara community welcomed the opportunity to join the national conversation about mental health by participating in Bell Let’s Talk Day.

This was the second year the College participated in the annual event, with campus-wide collaboration between Student Engagement, Athletics, People & Culture, Chartwells, and the Langara Student Union.

Event day included activities, information, and contests tailored toward educating students and employees about mental health, self-care, kindness, and healthy living through Bell Let’s Talk’s five ways to help end stigma: language, education, kindness, listening and asking, and talking about it. These steps were also highlighted in a social media campaign leading up to the event that featured Accessibility Services, Health Services, The Hub, and Counselling Services—because protecting mental health and eliminating stigma goes beyond a single campaign, or event, or day.

Thanks to the organizing departments for raising awareness, encouraging dialogue, and supporting healthy campus culture.

And special thanks to the staff and community members who support mental health and well-being each and every day.

Contact Tanya Miller, Mental Health Initiatives Consultant, at tanyamiller@langara.ca to learn about how you can get involved in future opportunities.
