SOS month is over, and we are so proud!

Thank you to everyone who supported Support our Students (SOS) events and initiatives in March. Once again, we were overwhelmed by the engagement on campus, with 37 college departments supporting SOS events helping us raise over $18,000 for our students. All funds raised in March will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the College – doubling its impact.

Below are a few highlights from this year’s Support our Students Celebration. Photos from this year’s events are now available in the 2019 SOS Flickr gallery.

Langara Cooks
Congratulations to Langara Cooks winners, Athletics & Kinesiology for being voted Langara’s ultimate Cook.

Kudos to all of our 2018 Piggy Pageant entrants. We are proud to announce 2018 winners.

  • Winner of the SOS Piggy Pageant: EXPERIPIG #49 (Faculty of Science)
  • The first runner up: Porcine of the Year (Faculty of Arts)
  • The second runner up: Faculty of Management Piggy (Faculty of Management)

SOS Silent Auction
Thank you to everyone who attended the event and all the departments and individuals who have donated items to the auction, you helped us raise over $10,000 in sales. A total of 126 items were auctioned, including the very popular Apple IMac donated by IT, silver bracelet carved by Aaron Nelson-Moody, martial art lesson donated by Lane Trotter, and liquor baskets.

Golden Apple Awards Presentation
We were excited to recognize 636 faculty and staff at the Golden Apple Awards ceremony on March 26. We received a total of 1,551 nominations from 167 nominators, an impressive increase of 71% and 67% more than in 2018. The Golden Apples demonstrate the incredible supportive community that we have at Langara. Thank you to everyone who thanked a colleague. And congratulations to our 2019 recipients.

Finally, thank you to this year’s SOS committee for organizing another great year of events and activities, we couldn’t have done it without you. We look forward to another exciting SOS month in 2020.
