Volunteer to be a “Human Book” at Community Day

We have an exciting and unique volunteer opportunity at Community Day presented by RBC Royal Bank – volunteer to be a human book! At Langara’s Human Library, visitors ‘borrow’ people – or human books – for very short periods of time to engage in face-to-face conversation and exchange information.

Volunteer to be a Human Book for a day
Do you have a story to share? Or maybe expertise? Human books create dialogue, understanding, and provide insight through conversation, answering questions and sharing their experiences about their areas of expertise with guests. Readers become listeners, engaging with the stories and information shared.

Human Book topics can vary, just like regular books, and we are looking for a wide range of experiences.

How does a Human Library work?
Easy. Just like a library. Readers (visitors) will sign up to check out a human book based on area of expertise. They then participate in one-on-one or small group conversations and ask questions to learn about the human book’s life experiences or special interests. The sessions are currently limited to 15 minutes.

How do I sign up to volunteer?
The Community Day Human Library will run from 12:00 pm–3:00 pm. Volunteers may be available for the entire event or for a portion of it (1-hour minimum). Interested in being a Human Book? Fill out the form below.

Community Day presented by RBC on Saturday, June 15 will be Langara’s largest campus-wide celebration and we want to give everyone an opportunity to be part of it. Questions? Email beyond49@langara.ca with the following details.
