Meet Tom Majek, Director of Operational Excellence

One of the draws for me in coming to the College was Langara’s foresight, innovative spirit and leadership in higher education. Having previously held faculty positions at Simon Fraser University, Douglas College and Kwantlen Polytechnic University, it has been wonderful to join the College and learn about what is important to the Langara community.

I joined Langara after years of working to improve health care in British Columbia through quality improvement, leadership development and change management efforts with health authorities and partners throughout the province.

Since I arrived in April, it has been a pleasure meeting with leaders across the College. I have been working particularly closely with the Workday@Langara team, including Project Director Dorothy Paukste, the Organizational Change Management (OCM) team and other project members as we continue to prepare for the new system.

Once we have our first go-live for Workday in January, the Operational Excellence team will coordinate the support and maintenance (also called sustainment) of the system in collaboration with IT and other departments. As Workday is always adding new features, our team will work with staff and faculty across the College to prepare for new Workday releases and make the most of new functionality.

The role of my team extends beyond providing post ‘go-live’ support for Workday. We will also work in partnership with leaders, staff and faculty to identify opportunities for improvement in infrastructure, systems, policies and workflows and provide change management support for a range of initiatives across the College.

This summer has been a great start to my time at Langara and I look forward to connecting with more people from across the College in September when the campus is back in full swing. I hope the fall will bring even more opportunities for conversation and collaboration.
