Work Integrated Learning Workshops

Please join your Langara colleagues for workshops on Work Integrated Learning (WIL) designed to explore experiential learning through a shared dialogue. Each workshop offers the opportunity for interactive activities that allow application of theory into your teaching and learning practice. Please note that you may register for any or all of the sessions in the series. Facilitators are looking forward to engaging with you in a welcoming atmosphere where you will have a chance to ask questions and enjoy refreshments.

The topics covered in the workshops are:

Tuesday October 8, 2019 from 2:30–4:30 pm

Workshop 1: Langara College WIL Review Process, the members of the WIL Review Team will be introduced, discuss about the key goals of the review, outline the process undertaken and highlight the main findings and recommendations.

Monday October 21, 2019 from 2:30–4:30 pm

Workshop 2: Work Integrated Learning and Experiential Learning Foundations, you will learn more about work integrated and experiential learning through a shared dialogue about definitions, attributes, kinds of knowledge, and curricular orientations.

Wednesday October 30, 2019 from 2:30–4:30 pm

Workshop 3: Work Integrated and Experiential Learning Theories, you will learn more about learning theories and theoretical foundations that support work integrated and experiential learning. The workshop will include shared dialogue about how people learn, skills transfer, and how thinking with theory supports pedagogical decisions making.

Thursday November 7, 2019 from 2:30–4:30 pm

Workshop 4: Learning Design for Work Integrated and Experiential Learning, you will learn more about learning design approaches and lenses that support the design of quality and high impact work integrated and experiential learning opportunities. The workshop will include shared dialogue curriculum design, the uses of UDL and inclusive design principles, and effective intercultural communication. 

Wednesday November 13, 2019 from 2:30–4:30 pm

Workshop 5: Assessment and Evaluation of Work Integrated and Experiential Learning, you will learn more about assessment and evaluation of work integrated and experiential learning opportunities. The workshop will include shared dialogue about authentic assessment methods, critical reflection, and evaluation strategies.

Thursday November 21, 2019 from 2:30–4:30 pm

Workshop 6: Learning and Teaching Activities for Work Integrated and Experiential Learning, you will learn more about designing activities to support work integrated and experiential learning opportunities. The workshop will include shared dialogue about teaching methods, active and authentic learning activities, and the role of teacher as facilitator.
