2019 Halloween contest winners

Our judges had a delightfully frightful time viewing the creative costumes and decorations around campus on Halloween! Deciding on the winners was tough, but they were up to the task.

We are delighted to reveal that the winners of the 2019 Halloween Contest are…

Best Department Costumes: the Faculty of Nursing got a little too close to the hungry undead while working the graveyard shift! Our judges were invited to enter the “infected zone” and ended up walking straight into a zombie nurse outbreak. Nurses, patients, and even a unicorn, looked like they came from beyond the grave and invoked fear in their grimy and bloodied clothes and makeup.

Best Department Decorations: The HUB impressed the judges for a second year in a row! The Office of Student Engagement transformed the department into a “Black Cat Cafe” and invited the judges to pet and hang out with the Cool Cats! The space was decorated with pictures and cut outs of black cats and littered with cat toys. Judges were even invited to take a scoop out of the kitty litter!

These two departments did an amazing job!

Honourable mentions go to the People & Culture department for their 80’s themed costumes. The intense eyeshadow, big hair, puffy sleeves, and acid wash jeans took the judges on a trip down fashion memory lane. The judges were also impressed by Registrar and Enrolment Services’ spectacularly executed “Langwarts. The college of Witchcraft and Wizardry” theme! Complete with a real talking sorting hat, “Have You Seen This Wizard” posters, and a feast in the Great Hall, the judges felt like they had taken a ride on the Hogwarts Express!

Thank you to all of the departments that entered this year’s contest and to our judges, who carved out some time from their busy schedules:

  • Chantal Faucher
  • Jane Mason
  • Rita Yip

… and last but not least, a big thank you to our Photographer, Jennifer Oehler!
