Building Relationships in Kunming

From April 20 to 24 representatives from Langara joined a delegation to Kunming in Yunnan Province, a city known as China’s gateway to Southeast Asia. Along with colleagues from the British Columbia Council for International Education, the Yunnan Department of Education, and Yunnan Normal University, we hosted a one-day forum for administrators in higher education on the theme of “Innovation and HE Management in the New Era”. The forum was part of a custom training program we offer through Continuing Studies, and the College was represented by President and CEO Lane Trotter, Program Coordinator Lynn Kitchen, Director of Langara’s Language Training Centre Vicki Vogel, Associate Director for International Marketing and Business Development Sik On-Hon, and myself (Ajay Patel, Vice-President for External Development).

The program has so far welcomed 49 post-secondary administrators from Yunnan to our Vancouver campus to develop their management skills, and we look forward to welcoming the next group of 30 students this September. The forum provided the opportunity for program graduates to share their experience with the inbound participant group, as well as senior officials from the Yunnan Department of Education.

This visit no doubt enhanced the College’s brand and reputation, nurtured our existing relationships, and created new collaborative opportunities for Langara as well as the Province. Many thanks to our hard-working team, as well as all who played a supporting role from Vancouver.
