Faculty Leadership Development Program

On May 11th the last workshop of Phase 3 of our Faculty Leadership Development Program (FLDP) was held. A goal of this program was to address both the leadership and management elements required for Faculty Leadership roles.

Comprised of three phases this program began in June 2017.

Phase 1 – Began on June 22, where a total of 90 participants took part in:

  1. Presentations by the senior leadership team and Langara Faculty Association
  2. Breakout sessions
  3. Q&A panel discussions with past and current department/division chairs.

Phase 2 – Chairs’ Roundtable Sessions (August 28–September 1) took place over five days showcasing topics on:

  1. Assessing and Managing Risk
  2. Human Resources
  3. Finance
  4. Student Records, Confidentiality and Managing Paper
  5. Student Services

Phase 3 – Workshops focused on leadership fundamentals (November–May).

  1. Dealing with Conflict
  2. Influencing Others
  3. Running Good Meetings
  4. Building a Team
  5. Coaching & Developing People

Thank you to all of the 109 participants that were involved. Your hard work and dedication were instrumental factors in the success of this initiative. Our leadership investment at the College builds, develops and further improves productivity, while successfully developing skills that align with Langara’s Strategic Plan.

Furthermore, due to the success of the FLDP, we are pleased to announce that People Services will be implementing a Leadership Development program tailored to our administrative leaders. Stay tuned!
