Oct 10 – Great Trek and Beyond 49 Campaign Launch
In 2019 Langara College will be celebrating two important milestones – our 49th year of providing accessible, high-quality, post-secondary education on West 49th Avenue, and our 25th year as an independent institution. The College has some exciting plans to celebrate our 49th anniversary and we want you to be part of it.
To launch our anniversary year, and the Beyond 49 campaign, we are inviting our campus community to celebrate with us at two special events that will honour our past and create new memories for the future. Join us on Wednesday, October 10, for the 2018 Great Trek and the Beyond 49 Campaign Launch. We’ve come a long way since 1970, and we hope you can join us and help kick off our anniversary celebrations.
The Great Trek – 2018
When: Wednesday, October 10, 11:30 am to 12:30 pm
Where: Starting at Oakridge Centre
On October 13, 1970, a crowd of 3,000 students, faculty, and VIPs made their way from the VCC King Edward Centre to the new VCC Langara campus – an event dubbed ‘The Great Trek’. As we kick off celebrations for our 49th year on 49th Avenue, we want to go back to where it all began by honouring our past and the original Langarans who helped make the campus what it is today. Starting at Oakridge Centre, we will walk part of the original 1970 trek route along Cambie Street between 41st Avenue and Langara. The trek will leave from Oakridge Centre at 11:30 am, with sign-in starting at 10:30am. The trek \will be followed by an unmissable campus-wide celebration and pep rally at the College.

Campaign Launch and Pep Rally

Every milestone needs to start off with a big celebration – and we’re planning the biggest event that Langara has ever seen. Join us for an inspiring afternoon of fun, reflection, and proud Langara moments. We’ll start off with a pep rally with games, prizes, and music, and we’ll hear from speakers from throughout Langara’s history. The event will officially launch our integrated celebration, alumni reconnection and fundraising campaign, Beyond 49.All students, employees, and retirees are invited to attend. No registration required, just join us on the day.
