I would like to provide the following update on our academic dean positions, including announcements on our two new interim deans.
First, I am pleased to let you know that Gerda Krause has been appointed as the Interim Dean, Faculty of Science effective August 20, 2018.
Gerda brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership experience to the dean role. Gerda has been at Langara College for many years, beginning as a biology instructor in September 1977 and holding the role of Department Chair, Biology starting in 1995, then on to Division Chair, Mathematics and Sciences starting in 2009. Gerda has played a significant leadership role at the College in her capacity as Chair of the Education Council since 2011.
Second, I would like to thank Ian McBain for agreeing to take on the role of Interim Dean, Faculty of Management. Ian has been Interim Dean, Faculty of Arts for most of the past two years while Julie Longo was on leave from the position, and he will move over to the Faculty of Management upon Julie’s return as Dean, Faculty of Arts on September 1, 2018. Ian has already had experience as the dean responsible for the Faculty of Management in 2012-2013, when he was Interim Dean, Social Sciences and Management. Ian has been with Langara continuously since 1995, first as a Psychology Instructor, taking on the role of Psychology Department Chair in 2006 and Division Chair, Social Science and Business, in 2011, prior to the interim dean role in 2012.
Please join me in congratulating and thanking Gerda and Ian for assuming these new roles.
Jacqueline Bradshaw will continue in her current position as Interim Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and Community Programs, until the completion of the search for a permanent dean, which is currently underway. The timing and sequencing of the searches for permanent deans for the Faculty of Management and the Faculty of Science are to be determined.
