As part of the 2014 Economic Stability Mandate, the BC government committed to introducing a shared benefit that activates an ongoing wage increase when GDP growth exceeds forecasts by the Economic Forecast Council (EFC). On Thursday, November 8th Statistics Canada reported that the BC economy grew by 3.8% in 2017, exceeding the EFC forecast of 2.3%.
What does this mean?
- Langara’s collective agreements were reached under the government’s Economic Stability Mandate for collective bargaining; therefore, all unionized employees will receive an increase of 0.75% on February 1, 2019 (LFA) and February 2, 2019 (BCNU, CUPE). To be clear the 0.75% is in addition to the 1% general wage increase adjustment payable as per the bargained wage schedule, which results in a net increase of 1.75%.
- CS LEAP Instructors will receive the same increase of 1.75% on February 2, 2019.
