Jun 15 – Community Day Speaker Series

The Speaker Series is one of our “must-see” activities at Community Day presented by RBC Royal Bank on June 15. Talented Langara faculty and alumni will share their knowledge and expertise with our guests and cover topics such as the morality of Artificial Intelligence, and Fake News and Democracy.

Learn about Langara’s partnership with Parallel 49 and Harvesters of Organic Hops. Presented by Applied Research Centre Chair, Kelly Sveinson.

The Danger Misinformation Poses to Democracy: Journalism Alumni Panel
12:00 pm–1:00 pm
A panel conversation moderated by CKNW’s Simi Sara, and featuring Journalism Alumni working in local community news including:

  • Jennifer Thuncher from the Squamish Chief
  • Kelvin Gawley from Burnaby Now
  • Adrian MacNair from Tsawwassen First Nations, Communications

Philosophers’ Jam: Fools or Monsters – A talk about moral questions surrounding AI with Alex Boston.

Philosopher’s Jam is a forum for the expression of provocative ideas. The event includes a short presentation by the guest speaker followed by an open dialogue session.

Join this informative sustainability discussion with Langara School of Management Instructor, Deland Jessop.

Strangers on a Train
3:30 pm–4:30 pm
This reading series is hosted by the Langara English Department and promotes dialogue and collaboration within Canada’s diverse literary community.  The Community Day Strangers on a Train event will feature Langara Alumni, Amy Sture, d.f. parizeau, Karol Pasciano, Ana Pacheco, and Marc Perez.
