Course Registration

Image for Image for

Course registration is the process where students select and enrol in the specific classes they will take during a semester. It is done through the Student Information System (SIS). Course registration is not done automatically by the College, and it is the student’s responsibility to register for their courses.

Visit our Pre-Registration Sessions for more information on the registration process at Langara.

IMPORTANT: If you are currently outside of Canada, do NOT book non-refundable travel until you have received your study permit approval (letter of introduction) and have registered for courses.

Registration Checklist

1. Set up Student Information System (SIS)

You must set up your Student Information System (SIS) access before you register. Refer to Student Accounts for information on your SIS login ID and password, Langara email login, and changing preferred email.

2. Complete New Student Survey

Students arriving to study at Langara for their first semester must complete the New Student Survey to tell us about your study permit application status.

Fully-accepted students will receive a unique survey link by email approximately 3-4 months before their first semester.

3. Register for Regular Studies courses

IMPORTANT: Registration into courses is your responsibility. You are responsible for understanding all steps required to successfully register for relevant courses.

Course registration begins March 25, 2024. Registration time is preassigned, depending on your program. Registration for all courses is subject to availability and is not guaranteed.

The tabs below outline some relevant links for the three stages of registration. If you are in Continuing Studies, please contact your program coordinator.

If you have not received an email about the New Student Survey, please contact Langara Global.

Academic support video series

This video series breaks down 11 key areas of support for Langara students – from how to set up your first semester of courses to getting ready for graduation.

Prerequisite requirements

Many courses at Langara have prerequisite requirements. In some cases, documents submitted for your admission may not be sufficient for prerequisite purposes.

To confirm you meet prerequisite requirements for your desired courses, visit the prerequisite section of the registration guide for more information or look for the course description to check its prerequisites.

NOTE: It is common for students to take more than two years to complete their program, especially if they must take prerequisite courses. If you think this may apply to you, please contact an International Student Coordinator (ISC) or email international@langara.ca.

Prerequisite courses

To check the list of prerequisite scores you already have, log into Student Information System. Select Student Menu > Student Records > View Your Prerequisites and Test Scores.

If you believe your previous academic history may be sufficient to meet the prerequisites of your desired courses, email the respective department and ask for a prerequisite override.

  • You may need to provide the department with a scanned copy of your academic documents so they can assess your qualification.
  • You can find the list of department contacts here.
  • Note that an override is not guaranteed.
  • Contact the ISS team for further assistance.

Alternatively, if you do not have prerequisite scores, consider registering for courses/electives that do not require any prerequisites in your first semester.

Diagnostic tests

To meet prerequisite requirements for some courses, you may need to write a placement or diagnostic test.

IMPORTANT: IELTS or Duolingo tests are not equivalent to the Langara English Test (LET) or any British Columbia Grade 12 English course. Therefore, these cannot be considered as a prerequisite for university-transferable courses. Some exceptions may apply for preparatory English courses. For more information, please refer to the Department of English FAQ.

For more information about the Langara English Test (LET) and Math Diagnostic Test (MDT) refer to Diagnostic Test page or view one of our info session recordings.

Read on to learn more and visit our Pre-Arrival Sessions page for additional information.

Travel to Canada

IMPORTANT: Do NOT book non-refundable travel until you have received your study permit and have registered for courses. Travelling to Canada prior to registering into courses may impact your student status in Canada.

All international students are encouraged to be on campus prior to their starting date to attend orientations; details will be sent to your email in advance or find more information on the Orientation Resources page.

Still outside of Canada?

Travel requirements are subject to change; please refer to the Government of Canada travel website for the most up-to-date information.

Already in Canada?

Please check if your post-secondary study permit is current. If it expires within 90 days, apply for an extension as soon as possible. Visit IRCC Extend Your Study Permit for details.

If you have already applied for an extension prior to your study permit expiry date, you have maintained status and may begin your studies while waiting for a response from IRCC.

Health and Medical Insurance

All international students living in British Columbia (BC) are required, by law, to have primary medical insurance while staying in BC.

As an international student, you are eligible for the Medical Services Plan (MSP) issued through the Government of BC; however, there is a mandatory 3-month wait period before your MSP coverage begins.

To avoid any gaps in your coverage, you must apply for MSP upon arrival in Canada and coverage will begin after the mandatory waiting period.

Students who arrive in BC for their first semester of study at Langara College will be enrolled automatically in a temporary medical insurance plan for the first 3 months of the semester (guard.me More Enhanced health insurance plan).

For full details on medical coverage, visit Medical Insurance and Health Resources or view our workshop recording.
